Process Paper
When Dan and I first started working together, before we started doing anything, we had to decide what our final project would be. We eventually decided on a website because we both had experience making websites and we thought it would be fun. At first we had to do a lot of research and that what we did by checking out books from the library and looking at websites. Our first website was on a site called Wix but after our first draft we knew that had to change because the web site was disorganized and didn’t have sub topics so we moved our website to Weebly. From there on we found pictures and primary quotes to add to our website and at the end we have come up with our finish product that has sub topics, primary sources, and even a slide show. We then had to make an annotated bibliography and an image bibliography and at the end we made this process paper. We are very proud of our website and we had a lot of fun making it.
The Battle of Gettysburg is a major turning point in history because without it, slavery could still be practiced today. If the Union had lost to Lee's army, the whole outcome of our country could change. After loosing countless battles, President Lincoln made Meade the new commander of the union army, for the battle of Gettysburg. If the North was unable to push Lee's army back to the south, and Lee was able to continue his invasion, chances are, Lincoln would have no other choice but to surrender, making the Confederate States, officially their own country. This cold mean that people would still be able to own slaves, in the country right next to ours. This is why the Battle of Gettysburg is such a major turning point, because with out it, slavery could still be going on today.
Evan and I picked this topic because prior to this project, we have had many lessons on the civil war, and more specifically the Battle of Gettysburg in general. We were taught that this, out of the many battles of the civil war, was the most important because it was the turning point of the war for the Union after facing many losses to Lee's army. when we saw this as an option for a project on a turning point in history, we dropped all other ideas and decided to collaborate on the Battle of Gettysburg. Having already went into to detail about the battle in previous classes, we already knew small, but major points on how and why the confederacy faced their first major loss. This made researching a great amount easier. Not choosing this topic for the project would be foolish, considering we've learned about it twice in earlier years, and already know so much about it. We think choosing this topic was truly beneficial, and will help us get a high grade.
