Day 1 Summary
On day one of the battle of Gettysburg the battle started after the Confederates followed a group of soldiers over a stream only to be confronted by many Union Troops. They fought and both sides fought hard. In the Afternoon, the south received reinforcements. After the reinforcements General Meade was asked to take charge. The Union was pushed pack from the stream to the town of Gettysburg. The Union troops were joined by others, and held position on the small hills that made up the landscape of Gettysburg. This strategy worked effectively, as it won the north the first day of battle.
Day 2 Summary
Lee knew he had to change his strategy in order to win day 2, so he decided to flank Meade's defense. This unexpected attack worked, and forced Meade to push his troops back. Lee ended killing more Northern troops, than loosing his own, which was unusual because the defensive army usually looses less men. This gave the edge to the south .
Day 3 Summary
Lee's plan was to do the same as day 2 and flank the Union troops. His plans were forced to change when the union fired cannons in hope of taking back Culps Hill. He had to defend Culps hill, for seven hours before being able to continue his original plan. The Union ended up taking the lead by then end of day, and winning the whole battle
"We entered Gettysburg in the afternoon, just in time to meet the enemy entering the town, and in good season to drive him back before his getting a foothold."
